The wave of political migrations from PRO to La Libertad Avanza (LLA) seems unstoppable, especially in the interior of Buenos Aires. Diego Valenzuela changed parties in January, and now the transfer of Fernanda Astorino, mayor of Capitán Sarmiento, to the space led by Javier Milei is being formalized.
Since the presidential runoff, Astorino and other PRO leaders have started to gravitate towards mileísmo, paving the way for her incorporation into the libertarian ranks. On social media, Astorino has shown her affinity for Milei's space. With this move, she becomes the third municipal figure to leave PRO, following the steps of Valenzuela and Ramiro Egüen from 25 de Mayo.
From the libertarian government, they assure that this adherence will mark the beginning of a new phase with more mayors from the provincial interior joining soon. Karina Milei, a central figure in LLA's political strategy, has mentioned the importance of maintaining the identity of the space, avoiding it being seen as a refuge for PRO leaders.
Milei's team seeks to handle these incorporations cautiously to avoid tensions during legislative discussions in Congress. The transfers to LLA continue at various levels, from councilors to provincial and national legislators, consolidating a movement that seems to be spreading across the country.
Astorino took office as mayor of Capitán Sarmiento in 2024, succeeding Javier Iguacel. Fernanda Astorino joins LLA after Diego Valenzuela's change in January, and another significant transfer in Milei's party is expected to be announced this Friday.
Strategies to contain new defections and possible alliances with La Libertad Avanza are highlighted in a meeting led by Cristian Ritondo and Soledad Martínez. Mayors such as Guillermo Montenegro, Sebastián Abella, Pablo Petrecca, María José Gentile, among others, will attend to discuss the political direction to take in the provincial elections.
The support of Bullrich and the consolidation of the trend from the city of Buenos Aires to other regions of the country have been key in these party changes. Amidst this situation, the PRO in Buenos Aires called a meeting to stop the exodus of leaders, highlighting the growing concern within the party.
